THE ADVANCED PATTERNS OF EFT
Peer Review by Rue Anne Hass, M.A.
I would buy this book.
And I would gain a lot from it. I
would learn from it many many new ways to use and think about EFT, learn to
color brilliantly outside the lines and even create my own designs with
it. I would chuckle, gasp
with delight, and highlight my way through the whole book.
And when I finished it, I would also be left with some deep puzzlements
and contradictions.
No question about it, this is as
elegantly creative a book on Meridian Therapies or maybe any topic as you will
find. At the same time it is poorly
edited, too wordy, full of un-explained terms, assumptions and references.
Its chatty and conversational writing style is disarming and inviting but
also disorienting and distracting. I
felt as if Silvia sat down at the computer and typed non-stop for two weeks
about everything she knows -– which is considerable -- about EFT and its uses,
without stopping, giving the book a rather breezy, intense feel, a sort of
organized stream of consciousness. I’m
not asking for academic writing – I don’t read that – but I wanted her to
take the next step of thoughtful editing.
This is an excellent resource for people
who have been working with EFT and other meridian therapies for awhile, long
enough to be unconsciously competent with the generic forms, and able to flow
with intuition and awareness into unexplored territory of human beingness with
some creative, gently powerful new tools for healing.
Each new pattern she introduces is
clearly summarized at the end of its section for immediate and easy use.
One of the best things about this book
and all of Silvia’s work in my mind is her emphasis on gaining and maintaining
a respectful, honoring rapport with a client.
She consistently steps in on behalf of the client to make sure that we
don’t leave someone suddenly unmoored from the imprint, thought or memory that
has been unconsciously guiding their life forever. She invites us to have this kind of rapport with ourselves as
well.
She is very good at bringing abstract
ideas and thoughts home to roost (and to nest, fertilize, and hatch new growth,
to continue the metaphor) in the body with some very innovative patterns, like
“Inner Child Healing,” “S-L-O-W EFT,” “Channel Clearing,” “Shadow
Emotions.” (Silvia’s ultimate
innovation in this area is a whole other modality she calls EmoTrance.
She gives a rousing advertisement of it at the end of the book, almost
implying that this EFT, which we have been diligently reading her deepest wisdom
on, is passé.)
In my opinion, Silvia Hartmann is one of
the most prolific and inspired thinkers and inventors of our time in the healing
arena, right up there with “out of the box” thinkers like Richard Bandler,
John Grinder, Virginia Satir, Roger Callahan and of course Gary Craig (not an originator
but a developer and an open hearted distributor).
I would read anything she writes and take any training she offers.
But with the caveat that you have to be willing to sort through a lot of
words and some puzzling references to get to the solid stuff. It is definitely there, though.
I love the very last paragraph of
the book:
“What we all need as human
beings is really, just one single person to be absolutely on our side, to really
love us, help us, protect us, inspire us, applaud us when we have succeeded in
something, no matter how insignificant it may seem to an outsider, someone who
will encourage us to strive towards the best we can possibly be, cheer us on;
someone who cannot ever be tempted away by youth, beauty, money bribes and will
always choose us, every day, each moment afresh; someone who will stand by us
when everything falls apart, love us no mater what; someone who will never let
us down, never give up on us, never leave us and who will always, always be
fiercely and actively loving of us in every way, every day, until we take our
last breath in physicality.
Well, that person is here.
It is you. And now, finally,
we can start on the road to be that person we always knew we should have been
– with a little help from our self, our endlessly loving totality.
And … EFT.”
And
Silvia Hartmann.

I am a writer and teacher about humanity
as a spiritual presence. I have a
private practice in Intuitive Mentoring in Madison, Wisconsin and
internationally by telephone. My
background includes university teaching, staff positions in the Findhorn
Foundation community (an international educationally oriented spiritual trust)
in Scotland, and study of energy meridian work, NLP, and hypnosis since 1986. I have learned most of what I know from the deep challenges
and bright enchantments of marriage and motherhood. My daughters are now vibrant young women in their 20’s.
Curiosity is my best characteristic.
